Day 9 - Part One - Dawson Creek, British Columbia

8 degrees, Frost, Sunny (8 degrees C is about 40 degrees F)

We started out at 8:22 a.m.  Our goal for the day is to reach Dawson Creek.  No, it's not the Dawson Creek from the former television show.

Before we leave town we decide to make a stop at WalMart.  They are few and far between on this AlCan highway.  We split up and agree to meet up front and David will wait with the dogs.  I'm the last one to check out.  I hand them my Visa card and it's declined.  I try my debit Visa card and it's also declined.  Fortunately, Kay bailed me out.  I called the credit union and they didn't show it being declined.  They said it was a U.S./Canadian WalMart issue.  Never happened again after this time.

Just before we left WalMart, we met Gary and Ann Irwin of Tennessee who were also headed to Alaska.  Very nice couple.

On the road again!  We've seen some strange signs, but never saw these two before:

 Bring on the moose!

We spotted some strange things on the highway, too.  No idea what this thing was, but there were two of them with us on the road.

At one point we had to slow down to 35 m.p.h. and that was going up a hill.  Tough pulling a trailer!

More signs I might have included in the signs post:

Notice the difference in the size of the planes?  One is a very large airport and the other is a smaller airport.  Later you'll see one for a tiny airport.

We decided this was either a no passing zone or you can't ride side-by-side.

Trucks entering the highway or a truck is about to run into a brick wall.

Lunch break at WalMart in Grande Prairie.  It's a balmy 19 degrees C outside.

Back on the road and we spotted another animal on the side of the road.

Didn't expect that one, did you?

 Small town barbershop/flea market.

Not sure who chooses this, but Canada is a huge country.  We didn't stop so I can't verify the truthfulness of this sign.

We're almost to Dawson Creek!  This ends part one of the trip to Dawson Creek!

TTFN!

Jenny
